Our Story: A Legacy of Faith in Bushwick
From South Third Street to Knickerbocker Avenue, our journey is one of community, faith, and enduring presence.
Knickerbocker United Methodist Church has deep roots in the heart of Bushwick. Our story began as the South Third Street United Methodist Church, also known as Iglesia Metodista Unida de Sur Tres, serving a vibrant, bilingual congregation.
In 2010, a faithful merger brought our community to its current home at 260 Knickerbocker Avenue, uniting our heritage with a renewed commitment to our neighborhood. For over a decade, we have continued as a cornerstone of spiritual life and community support.
Today, we remain a community-centered congregation, grounded in Methodist Christian tradition and dedicated to welcoming all who seek worship, connection, and a place to belong in Bushwick.
Our Journey Through Faith & Community
Our story is woven into the fabric of Bushwick, reflecting a legacy of faith, resilience, and a deep commitment to serving our neighbors. From our origins to our present-day mission, we honor the path that has shaped our bilingual, community-centered congregation.
Founding as Iglesia Metodista Unida de Sur Tres
Our roots begin with the South Third Street United Methodist Church (Iglesia Metodista Unida de Sur Tres), a vibrant Spanish-speaking congregation established to serve the growing Hispanic community in Brooklyn. This foundation established our core values of inclusivity and spiritual support.
The Merger of 2010
In a significant chapter of our history, the congregation of Iglesia Metodista Unida de Sur Tres merged with the Knickerbocker United Methodist Church in 2010. This union brought together two faith communities, strengthening our presence and expanding our mission on Knickerbocker Avenue.
A Lasting Impact on Bushwick
Today, we continue the legacy of both congregations as a cornerstone of the Bushwick community. Our bilingual heritage informs a welcoming environment for all, and our doors are open for worship, outreach, and fellowship. We are proud to be a place of spiritual growth and practical support for our neighbors.
Our Home on Knickerbocker Avenue
Since the merger, our physical and spiritual home has been at 260 Knickerbocker Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11237. This location allows us to serve as an accessible hub for the entire Bushwick community.
